“In writing this post, I’m entering the Microsoft Windows Style Makeover sweepstakes for a chance to win a head to toe makeover!”
I’m heading to Blogher ’12 in NY and would love nothing more than a makeover. Lord knows I need one.
Here’s why:
I’m in need of a wardrobe makeover. It’s been way to long since I’ve revamped my closet. I’m in desperate need of a new suit, black pants, comfy heels (is that possible?) and so much more.
In February 2010 I was laid off from my job (hubby laid off a few months before I) and sent a tweet out on Twitter asking who else was unemployed in NJ. This led to me forming NJ Unemployed. An organization that provides monthly programs for the community as well as online networking opportunities and legislative advocacy. From branding myself online I started my own social media & PR company in June 2010. I am an active member of my community sitting on various committees’ with the Mercer Chamber of Commerce, the International Governing Board of Delta Phi Epsilon and Board of Directors for Rider University Alumni Association. I’m a busy girl and don’t have much time to shop. Not to mention trying to save for a house so trying not to spend much.
When I got laid off my husband and I moved in with his parents as a way to save money until we secured employment. Unfortunately, my mother in law fell ill shortly thereafter and in October 2011 passed away from a blood disorder (myleofibrosis). Everything happens for a reason. I’m a firm believer in that. The best thing that happened to me was getting laid off from my job as I was able to start my own business and form NJ Unemployed. I’m happy that my husband and I moved in with our in-laws and I was able to help care for his mother in her final days.
Getting laid off was the best thing that has happened to me. Now that I’m a business owner I need to look the part. It’s been a long couple of years.
You’ve got to make lemonade out of those lemons that life hands you. Everything happens for a reason.
